What Parents Are Saying

“Our daughter had developed a perception of herself as someone who wasn’t ‘good at math’.

She has met with Karima once a week for most of the school year and the change is remarkable. Most notably, our daughter now recognizes that she is quite competent in math and simply may need to devote more time to certain concepts. Her last report card indicated that she performed above expectations in several areas. Our daughter actually said she didn’t think she needed tutoring anymore.

The time spent towards this goal with Karima is priceless and we are truly grateful for the incredible impact on our daughter’s overall academic and developmental experience. ”

“Karima has made a tremendous impact on our daughter.  Not only has she helped strengthen her math skills, but she has also helped build her confidence and belief in herself. We noticed that math became less intimidating, and she began approaching challenges with greater determination and a more positive attitude.

Karima is knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely invested in her students’ success. She creates a supportive environment that encourages girls to ask questions, take risks, and grow as learners. We are incredibly grateful for her support and would enthusiastically recommend her to any family looking to strengthen their daughter’s math skills while building confidence that extends far beyond the classroom.”

~Lynne, parent of a 4th grade tutoring student

“My daughter was in Ms. Hopkins’s math class in 7th grade, and I very quickly realized that it was going to be a very different experience. My daughter was always a solid math student, but lacked confidence in herself and her skills as a mathematician. There was always a lot of stress, and a heaviness when she talked about math class … all of that changed in 7th grade.

My daughter felt seen and appreciated by Ms. Hopkins in a way that she hadn't before, giving her the confidence to trust her skills, participate in class, and ask questions when she needed help… Instead of being stressed out at the end of the day, she felt calm.

Ms. Hopkins is a wonderful educator and role model for girls. She brings out the best in her students, and gives them the tools, support, and encouragement to thrive. ”

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Build Confidence. Strengthen Skills. Start the Year Strong.

Girls’ Math Power Week is a one-week, small-group program designed to help girls develop confidence, independence, and clarity in their mathematical thinking before the school year begins.

Each session is grade-specific, allowing for targeted instruction on the concepts that most often challenge students at that level. Alongside strengthening core skills, students will learn practical problem-solving strategies and develop a more confident, resilient approach to learning math.

A central focus of the program is helping students shift their relationship with math—learning to approach challenges with persistence and to view mistakes as a valuable part of the learning process.

With intentionally small groups and a supportive environment, students leave not only with stronger skills, but with greater confidence in their ability to tackle new and unfamiliar material.

What Makes Girls' Math Power Week Unique

Many students who struggle in math are capable learners who have lost confidence in themselves. This program is designed specifically to address that experience.

Girls’ Math Power Week combines:

  • Grade-specific skill reinforcement

  • Explicit problem-solving strategies

  • Executive functioning support

  • Growth mindset work

  • A supportive peer environment

Students learn how to organize their thinking, approach unfamiliar problems more calmly, and develop strategies for working independently and checking their own work.

Just as importantly, they experience being in a room full of girls who often feel the same way they do—something that can be both reassuring and transformative.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Karima Hassan Hopkins

Karima Hassan Hopkins is a former NYC independent school math teacher with 16 years of experience who taught at Brooklyn Friends School, Little Red School House and Elisabeth Irwin High School, and Berkeley Carroll School, and is now a private tutor specializing in supporting girls who struggle with math confidence.

Her approach combines strong conceptual instruction with practical strategies that help students become more independent, organized, and resilient learners.

Throughout her teaching career, Karima became increasingly interested in, and frustrated by, the confidence gap many girls experience in math—even when they are highly capable students. She created Girls’ Math Power Week to address that challenge directly in a supportive small-group setting.
